A Surprise Party, Fireworks, and a Goodbye!

We had an awesome 4Th of July weekend here at Fort Rucker this year! We started the festivities with a surprise 3rd birthday party for our sweet little friend Aly or as Delainey likes to call her, "Gally." Her reaction was priceless. She looked at us all like we were crazy and then ran off to play in Delainey's room. Love her sweet little face,

After we feasted on pizza and Sponge Bob cupcakes, we went outside for some pinata fun. Mr. Will was in charge of the pull string action and gave those kids quite the challenge. The kids were cracking us up trying desperately to hit that darn thing while wearing my towel wrap on their heads...it was the only thing I could come up with for a blindfold. However, the little kids pulled it up so they could see, so really it just looks like we made them wear a turban to play!

When the kids got tired of trying, we let "Uncle Weller" take a swing at it and boy did he deliver!

We celebrated 4Th of July Texas style with one of Luke's buddies and boy was it delicious! WE dined on smoked meats of all varieties, enjoyed the best homemade guacamole I have ever had and while sipping on homemade sangria...seriously, those folks in Texas know how to party! After dinner, the kids got to each decorate their own cupcake, which was a big hit all around!

After we stuffed ourselves silly, we walked down to the Freedom Festival here on post. It was a pretty decent showing for this tiny little post. They had vendors, bounce houses, a kid size army obstacle course, a petting zoo and best of all, Gary Sinise and The Lt Dan Band as our entertainment! If you know me at all, you know I love me some Gary Sinise! It was such a great time and the fireworks did not disappoint!
We went up close to get a look at Gary Sinise...I am pretty sure he winked at me!

My dad, Luke, and Ise watching the fireworks!

Our neighborhood crew...couldn't ask for a better group of folks to celebrate with!

We had the best weekend but unfortunately it had to come to end at some point and we had to say goodbye to our most excellent neighbors. I will never get use to that part of the Army life. In fact, truth be known, I would rather hide under a rock with a stiff drink and wallow in my emotions then have to actually say a face to face goodbye. It sucked, everyone cried. Luckily though, these are the kind of people that you know you will be lifelong friends with and will one day see again. Miss you Wahler crew!
